The Ribbit Award Nominations Are In--Come Vote!
Last week someone in the comment trail asked me if my blog had anything to do with currying favor for the Niblet awards. I have to admit I didn’t know what the Niblet Awards were, so I educated myself by googling it. The Niblet awards are for outstanding blogs, and, oddly, the SixLDSWriters blog was not included in any of the nominations.
It got me thinking though, our blog deserves its own award with all of our amazing bloggers and so, I am pleased to announce the Ribbit Awards!
This past week has been a flurry of activity. My crack team of industry professionals have sifted through all the blog entries on the frog blog from 2008 and have chosen the top blogs in five categories. It was very hard for all of us to narrow down the nominations, they were all so amazing, of course, but we did and the result of our labors is below. It may be difficult to choose your favorite, the top blog deserving of a Ribbit Award, but I think you can do it. Pick the one that makes you laugh until you cry, or cry until you laugh, whichever category comes first. It's all in fun.
After all the voting is done we’ll announce the winners next week. You may vote in one category or all the categories if you so choose, but you only get one vote per category per person. Does that make sense?
If you do not feel comfortable voting in the comments section publicly, you can email me at juliecoulterbellon@gmail.com
I think this will be really fun and I included the title, month, and author as well as a possible link so you can find the entries (I stink at linking, so bear with me.) I guarantee you’ll smile as you read some of these again. (And I must apologize to Rob for calling him a mean little man. After reading his hilarious posts again, I remembered what's good about him.)
So, without further ado, may I present to you, the nominations for the Ribbit Awards for the SixLDSWriters blog 2008.

If I click on your links, I have to scroll down to see the article. I could still get them, but I had to scroll.
I pick the Edward Cullen interview because I'm old enough to know who Teen Wolf is. And it was really funny.
I liked the Mice article for writing blog.

My heart has its reasons, too.
From the first moment I contacted Kerry with a fan e-letter for Sam Shade, a character in her NightShade mystery series, I’ve been enthralled with that writer. Without knowing me, Kerry offered to produce a child-sized crossword puzzle for a coloring/activity book I was creating for our local fire department. I had no idea that she’d taken her first dose of chemotherapy that same week.
It didn’t matter how badly Kerry felt, she still went that extra mile to help a complete stranger. And it wouldn’t be the last time she would extend her hand to me.
Kerry Blair’s “Heart” series was the first LDS fiction books I ever read. Frankly, I didn’t know there was such a thing. Imagine ... Mormon writers writing fiction, even mentioning scripture and church doctrine in their books. Incredible! I plowed through her stories craving more. Kerry’s books led me to Stephanie Black, which led me to ... basically cleaning out my friend’s bookshelf. I found a treasure trove of talented writers I never knew existed. Names I recognize now after reading this blog.
Over the course of the past year, I’ve leaned of Kerry’s incredible mentoring ability. With a few strokes of her keyboard you’re her forever sister and making plans for living in the after-here on the same cul-de-sac, most likely right next door, but in the meantime—write that book, or work through that problem. She’s easily everyone’s best friend.
Though her body may not cooperate, (MS is unpredictable and unforgiving,) I know her heart still cares. And I know I’m better for knowing her.
In my heart, Kerry Lynn Blair will always be my hero.
I vote for her Most Inspirational Blog, “Why I’m Not Afraid of Coyotes,” and for Best Guest Blog, “The Heart Has Its Reasons,” by Hilary Blair. (If Hil wins this category, she needs to share her crown with her mother.)

I haven't had time to vote yet but I will!
I wanted to tell you I pimped this blog on my blog: http://taffyscandy.blogspot.com/2009/07/blogs-and-contests.html
Best Interview of 2008:
“The Brands of Wrath”—Robison Wells
Most helpful Writing Blog:
“Setting the Stage” –Stephanie Black
Most Inspirational Blog:
“Why I’m not afraid of coyotes.” –Kerry Blair (anything by Kerry, really! I haven’t cried so hard in weeks. Thanks a lot, Kerry!)
Most Humorous Blog:
“Columbus Day Blah” –Robison Wells (although this was the hardest category to choose. Rob, you’re the most hilarious human being EVER!)
Best Guest Blog:
“Top 10 reasons why having a baby is easier than writing a book” –Karlene Browning
Taffy, thank you for your pimpin' efforts. You're awesome!
And thank you to everyone else for the votes. (Deb, you made me tear up. *sniffle*)
My Great Aunt Polly had both a soapbox and a corner. I had no idea how very like her I am until I followed the links in the "inspirational" category. I'm mortified -- but also grateful to Deb and others who love me despite myself.
Julie: Embarassment aside, what a truly fun idea! Thanks so much for reminding me of a few of my favorite things -- and putting them all together so conveniently. This is, indeed, a keeper!
Interview: Definitely the wildly popular "Enough for Forever." I will someday forgive Rob for "Brands of Wrath." Maybe.
Writing: "Don't Bang Your Head." I repeat that advice to myself daily.
Inspirational: "Why I Write." J. Savage Jeff Scott is my hero!
Humorous: "Why I Love Muppets." I DO love Muppets and will never, ever vote against them for anything!
Guest: Okay, I seriously loved ALL of these. We've had some really terrific guest bloggers!
Thanks for doing this! I'll send lovely jumping froggy "trophies" to the winners!
Fun idea! My votes:
Best interview: The Brands of Wrath--John Steinbeck (Enough For Forever, a close second.)
Most Helpful Writing Blog 2008: Tapping In to Your Creative Self
Most Inspirational Blog 2008: Why I’m Not Afraid of Coyotes (Close Second: I Believe)
Most Humorous Blog 2008: Rob the Galleria of Blogs
Best Guest Blog 2008: 10 Reasons Why Having a Baby is Easier Than Writing a Book (Well, duh. Close second: The Heart Has its Reasons)
Dearest Kerry, always being so sweet. You know as well as I that it's not nearly as funny as anything Rob's ever written. (In fact, it's pretty much only the clips themselves that are funny.)
I want to know where the categories where I could actually win are. Best Stephanie Meyer picture? Best historical information? Best complaining about childbirth/pregnancy? Best why homeowners' associations bite? I'm so the red-headed stepchild in the Ribbit Awards. LOL
