Stephanie Black and "Fool Me Twice"
I was just going to call in sick today on the whole blogging thing. I've been having some awful stomach pains all day (since 3:00 this morning, actually) and have started in with a fever.
But look at what a trooper I am!
Not only am I here, but I'm going to let all of you know that to her surprise, Stephanie Black's new book is out on shelves earlier than expected.
I haven't had the opportunity to read this book yet, but I am sure that it is very good. How do I know this? Because very frequently in conversations with my editor, it somehow comes around to what a great writer Stephanie is and how the editorial committee at our publisher just adores her.
Since she's probably busy with her promotional plans and all that Whitney Award funness, I thought I would go ahead and make sure our readers know that you have a reason to get thee to a bookstore tonight.
And hey, while you're there, if you want to pick up "Desire of Our Hearts," I just want you to know that I have no problem with that.
I also promise to take time this week to do a write-up of conversations with Dr. Allen (limited as they were because of his illness) and post it next Saturday.

Sariah, thank you so much! When I checked the blog this evening and saw your post, it was one of the nicest surprises I've ever gotten!
I'm sorry you're not feeling well and hope you're feeling better soon.
Very exciting, Stephanie. Congrats.
I hope you feel better, too, Sariah.
A book out early. How often does that happen? Can't wait to read it.
I just have to say, I was one of Stephanie's test readers and it is a fantastic book. I read it in about 24 hours because I had to find out what happened next.
I will say, when you do read it, that scene where the HR lady comes in and saves the day? That was my suggestion.
May I second what Covenant's editorial committee and EHRL have already said?
I begged and begged (and BEGGED) and finally got a preview copy of "Fool Me Twice" myself. I opened the attachment at a busy time, thinking I'd skim the first chapter and read it the next day. About four hours later I closed the file. My day's work was undone, the phone unanswered, and I'd totally forgotten to attend a pack planning meeting, but I'd completed one of the most amazing reads, well, ever. (And this from a woman who was dismayed when she read the premise because I've read only one book EVER before this one with the same literary device that I liked -- and it was by Dickens. :) "Fool Me Twice" is amazing. And, yeah, the Super HR Lady? Truly, what could be better than that!?
PS to Sariah: What a trooper! I hope you're better. There's nasty stuff going around. I saw The Frog this weekend at a writer's conference in Phoenix with Tristi Pinkston (pictures to follow) and he looked a little bloated himself.
FEEL BETTER!
I'm really excited to read Stephanie's new book. I loved her first one.
My daughter was at the writer's conference in Phoenix and said she loved your class, Kerry! She told me, "Mom, we need to just write our 'stupid' books!"
Thank you so much, everyone! You really know how to make a writer smile!
Kerry's enthusiasm is making me look forward even more to reading this.
So, Stephanie, do you recommend buying the book this week to help your numbers, or is there a better time?
(And when can I get it autographed?)
Jon, this week would be a fantastic time to buy the book! (Of course, I'd love to have you buy it anytime). Thank you! That's the kind of question I love to get!
Do you live in Utah? I'll be visiting a bunch of bookstores on May 3rd and I'd love to sign your book. Once I know my schedule, I'll post it on my website.
Terry -- who's your daughter? Did I get to talk with her during any of the breaks?
The conference was SO much fun! Best group anywhere, ever. And I've never been as inspired by anyone (this side of General Conference) as I was by Tristi Pinkston. I took great notes but, more importantly, I wrote every word she said on the tablets of my heart. I'm going to blog about it when I can sit up for more than ten minutes at a time.
Glad to hear you're writing your "stupid" book. :) WARNING: Shameless self-promotion ahead! If you want to read the story behind it, it's in "Counting Blessings," a book that came out the same time as Stephanie's. (Thank goodness mine is nonfiction. NOTHING could compete with "Fool Me Twice!"
Thanks for your kind comment about the class. You made my day!
